The Calmat-Impulse-Technology is based on the principle of physical water treatment. Special electronic impulses change the crystallization process of the liquid calcium, this way the hard scale loses its adhesive power. "When I say great "alternative" I mean that as it does not soften hard water per se, but by changing the ions of the calcium and magnesium it treats the water in a way that it makes it seem "softer". Primarily, its function is to prevent hard scaling and rust in your pipes, which is what exactly what it did in my house. I'm quite the skeptic so I had to do tons of research and read reviews before I bought this product, and so far I have no regrets. I waited two weeks before I wrote this review to really give an honest feedback, and quite frankly, I didn't need that much time because we noticed the different right away! Installation was about 30 mins. tops and everything was straight forward; the manual also gave you a fair bit of options of how to install the unit along the pipe line. No more buying salt and maintenance!!"

"Easily installed--the most time consuming chore was winding the wore around the water pipe. All supplies were included, along with clear instructions on installing and use. Our water supply comes in from the street via a 1" black plastic pipe. I installed the softener near where the black pipe enters the house system, just before the pressure control valve.
Within 24 hours, we had soft water throughout the house. The girls are ecstatic about how great it leaves their hair after a shampoo. You can really cut down on the amount of soap.detergent used for laundry, and dishes. We have some of the hardest water in our area of Canada and many fixtures (taps, etc) are scaled up considerably. I look forward to seeing that scale disappear, as promised."
